Released 04 July 2009
Dan’s fourth independent release was originally offered as a free download. While earlier albums are starkly autobiographical, this is his first containing utterly abstract characterizations: a suicidal stock broker, a traveler consumed by dust, and contemporary working-man anthems that could have been written on Tin Pan Alley. It’s the first Dan Costello album where no curse words are present. Recorded mostly live, with solo voice and piano or guitar, it was made in tribute to the earnest music Dan heard growing up – Woody Guthrie, Phil Ochs, Malvina Reynolds, and Broadway soundtracks. Upon hearing “Boy With The Gun,” Pete Seeger had a one-word reaction: “Congrats!” This was the first album collaboration between Dan Costello as artist and Brian Speaker as producer.
