The idea for Pinelawn Empire formed at a blithe crossroads. Finding the life of a solo musician to be introverted Joe Vetter began performing as a Pinelawn Empire and then, life imitated art and after a half year of performing solo under the name a band formed.
The longest standing members of Pinelawn Empire are Joe Vetter, the guitarist/songwriter and Kris Thomson, the drummer. Kris has been the most influential member, he fostered the folk-punk style Pinelawn Empire has taken on.
“We were named on a hot summer day on a drive through the pine barrens, windows rolled down, people’s hair whipping around. Somebody uttered the phrase Pinelawn Empire and it just seemed to sum up the moment, the group and the message of the music. A warm, inviting, idyllic image of a long lost childhood empire to some, or a cold, grim, morose, political wasteland to others, the name is so fluid, we get different interpretations at every event we perform at.”
